Active Ingredients and their Effect
Pseudocollagen
Pseudocollagen is a true moisturising glycoprotein taken from living cells. It is extracted from traditional brewers yeast by a controlled process which preserves its high molecular weight and native structure and enables it to confer desirable moisture-binding and film-forming properties to the skin.

Pseudocollagen has been extracted from the intra-cellular matrix from yeast cells in a water-soluble 'pseudo collagenous' form suitable for use in cosmetics. Pseudocollagen is the name that has been given to this cellular extract consisting of a moisturising complex of sugars and proteins. This complex is responsible for providing turgor and shape inside the cell in a similar way to sugar/ protein complexes in the dermis. It has been demonstrated that Pseudocollagen has excellent moisture binding properties, making it especially suited as a soluble collagen replacement.

Collagen provides an important function in the skin matrix, not only for its structural properties, but also for its ability to help hold moisture in the dermis. Collagen fibrils provide the rigid dermal framework around which the moisture binding proteoglycan structure is woven. Elastin fibrils supply the whole structure due to their elasticity. The appearance of the skin is directly proportional to its ability to bind water. Upon ageing, the collagen and elastin content in connective tissue reduces with an accompanying decrease in ability to retain moisture. The skin becomes thinner, takes on an aged appearance and often develops wrinkles. Pseudocollagen, affords excellent moisturising properties giving skin a more supple, healthy appearance.

Ambre Oceane
Ambre Oceane is an extract of Pelvetia Canaliculata, a small amber coloured seaweed that is harvested in springtime during its reproductive cycle when its levels of growth factors and isofavones are at their peak. Pelvetia Canaliculata exhibits DHEA-like properties and DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone) is responsible for the production of the male and female sexual hormones. It reduces stress, and stimulates the immune system. DHEA has a positive effect on the metabolism as a whole, in that it restricts fat deposits. With ageing, the concentration of DHEA in the blood is reduced by as much as 80 percent.

DHEA is a natural hormone made primarily by the adrenal or ?stress glands?. DHEA and cortisol are the bodies long-acting stress hormones and are antagonistic to each other. DHEA has an anabolic or building influence, whereas cortisol has a catabolic or tearing down effect on the body. Both of these effects are essential and these two hormones must be in proper balance for optimal health.

When subjected to prolonged stress, the body prefers to make increasingly greater amounts of cortisol and less DHEA, which results in acceleration of the ageing process. Synthesis of Extra Cellular Matrix components (elastin, collagen, glycosaminoglycan, etc.) is reduced and protein breakdown is increased, leading to skin sagging & wrinkles. Even after the stress is removed, these hormones may not return to normal levels, but instead, may remain in the stress response mode with high cortisol and low DHEA output. As we age the we are subjected to more stress, resulting in lower levels of DHEA.

Evening Primrose Oil
Evening primrose oil is obtained from the seeds of the evening primose plant, a perennial found in North America. The leaves, roots and flowers of the evening primrose are all edible; the plan was used as a food source for many Native American tribes.
The evening primrose contains an essential fatty acid called gamma linolenic acid. The body does not produce essential fatty acids so they must be ingested through food. Omega-3 fatty acids together produce a second type of prostaglandin, called E1. This type of prostaglandin helps reduce inflammation and aids in digestion.

Evening Primrose oil is a nutritional supplement and a member of the essential fatty acid (EFA) group. There are two members of the group, the omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.

Evening primrose oil is rich in omega-6 fatty acids and one of these, gamma linolenic acid, has certain medicinal properties that may act as an anti-inflammatory for conditions such as arthritis, eczema, high blood pressure or hypertension. Evening primrose oil is also believed to help alleviate cramps associated with pre-menstrual symptoms, though this has yet to be scientifically proven.

Directions for use of the Skin Relief Massager
Inserting batteries

* Your Skin Relief Massager uses 2 x AA batteries.
* Remove the battery cover and insert batteries, making sure that you position the +/- symbols on the batteries to those on the casing.
* Replace the battery cover by inserting the bottom of the cover first, then pressing the top into place.
* Replace the batteries when the massager starts to slow down.
* If you do not intend using the massager for some time, remove the batteries and store separately to avoid leakage within the unit.

Using the Skin Relief Massager
Your Skin Relief Massager comes with two sponge heads, and two massaging heads. These snap easily onto the massager tool.
In general, use the sponge head for applying cleansers and creams, and use the massage heads for exfoliating creams and oils. The massager has two speed settings. We recommend the LOW setting for your face, and the HIGH setting for other areas of the body. Always use creams when using the massager, to avoid dragging and damaging dry skin.

The Full Facial !
For a superbly pampering facial that will leave your skin looking wonderful, we suggest you use the Skin Relief Massager in conjunction with the Micro-Dermabrasion Exfoliator Face Masque and Conditioning & Moistursing Cream in the following way.

1. Use a headband or towel to keep your hair away from your face.

2. Thoroughly cleanse your face.

3. Using your fingers, apply the Micro-Dermabrasion Exfoliator Face Masque to your face, avoiding the delicate areas of eyes and lips.

4. Attach one of the massage heads to the massager unit. The medium massage head (it has four ?domes? on it) is for a gentle massage ? you may wish to use this when you first start exploring the world of facial massage and as you become accustomed to the sensation of the massager and develop your own beauty regime. For a more invigorating massage, the fine massage head which has 24 small ?domes? on it should be used.

5. Switch the massager onto the LOW setting

6. Gently move the massager around your face using circular movements. Avoid your eyes.

7. Continue for 2 minutes. Then switch off the massager, and leave the mask on for a further 10-15 minutes. Clean the massager head.

8. Rinse away the Micro-Dermabrasion Exfoliator Face Masque and pat your skin dry.

9. Attach the sponge head to the massager unit.

10. Now, apply the Conditioning and Moisturising Cream to your face, and place a little onto the sponge applicator.

11. Switch the massager onto the LOW setting and massage the cream into your skin in circular movements.

12. Continue massaging for 2 minutes, or stop before this if the cream has been absorbed.

13. Clean the sponge head as directed, and enjoy your beautiful skin

Cleaning the Sponge and Massage heads
When you have finished your treatment, switch off the massager and remove the sponge or massage head. Rinse in warm water.
Do not use alcohol, acetone, or abrasive cleaners to clean the plastic parts.
Dry the massaging tools with a soft cloth. Pat the sponge applicator tool to remove excess water and then allow to air-dry.
If the sponge applicator tool becomes discoloured or misshapen through wear, we recommend replacement using the enclosed order form.

Important
Make sure your hands are dry when using the massager.
Do not immerse the massager in water.
Avoid eye area.
